Ben Griffin's final round at the BMW Championship began with a meltdown that quickly went viral. Turns out, it had less to do with nerves and more to do with creatine.

The 29-year-old golfer four-putted the first hole from four feet, then blasted his tee shot out of bounds on the second at Caves Valley Golf Club in Maryland. After the round, Griffin explained that his struggles were caused by accidentally swallowing a clump of creatine powder mixed in his water bottle.
"I had basically a snowball of creatine — because it had been in my bucket for a month — and broke it up and put it in," Griffin said, via the New York Post. "I accidentally swallowed one of the big rocks. I've never 'overdosed' on creatine before, but I think I did in the moment because I didn't really drink any water after that. I basically just inhaled a snowball. So, I started getting super shaky. I've never felt like that before and I felt like I had tremors."

Griffin opened his round with a triple bogey followed by a double. "I was freaking out and didn't know what to do," he admitted. "Luckily, my caddie made me chug a whole water, and I tried to calm down."
Once settled, Griffin rebounded with seven birdies over his final 12 holes to finish tied for 12th. It continued what has been a breakout year on tour, highlighted by victories at the Zurich Classic (with partner Andrew Novak) and the Charles Schwab Challenge. He is currently ninth in the Ryder Cup standings, with captain Keegan Bradley weighing his options for Bethpage next month.
Scottie Scheffler went on to rally past Robert MacIntyre for his fifth win of the season. Griffin, meanwhile, will look to carry momentum into next week's Tour Championship at East Lake, where $10 million awaits the winner.
