John Kruk Jabs At Angel Reese Over 'Mebounds' Reputation During Phillies Broadcast

Angel Reese has heard plenty about her rebounding style, but the latest jab came from an unlikely place. That would be the broadcast booth at a Major League Baseball game.

Former MLB All-Star and longtime analyst John Kruk took a light swipe at the Chicago Sky forward during Tuesday night's Phillies-White Sox game on NBC Sports Philadelphia, referencing Reese's reputation for padding her rebounding numbers by grabbing her own missed shots.

The moment unfolded when play-by-play announcer Tom McCarthy gave a birthday shoutout to the wife of a former high school basketball teammate. McCarthy joked that his missed shots helped his friend shine by creating easy rebounds. That opened the door for Kruk.

"I don't want to say anything but there's someone here in Chicago that does that a lot," Kruk said. "She gets her rebounds, too."

Though he didn't mention Reese by name, the meaning was clear. The "mebounds" term — popularized on social media to describe players who inflate stats by rebounding their own misses — has followed Reese since her college days. The 6-foot-3 forward has even embraced the narrative by filing to trademark the word.

Reese appeared to respond indirectly to Kruk's comment, posting to X: "clout is one helluva DRUG. Like it really gets to a point."

She also shared a TikTok clip around the same time, further signaling she was aware of the chatter.

Despite the criticism, Reese has been productive in her second WNBA season. The Sky rookie is averaging 14.2 points and 12.6 rebounds per game, while raising her field goal percentage to 44.4 percent after a rocky start to the year.

Reese, 22, was selected in the first round of the 2024 draft and has quickly become one of the most talked-about young players in the league, for both her play and her presence.
