Cleveland announced after the session that Sanders suffered an oblique injury while throwing early in practice, keeping him sidelined the rest of the day. It's the latest hiccup in what had otherwise been a promising start to the preseason for the rookie.

Sanders shined in the Browns' exhibition opener, completing 14-of-23 passes for 138 yards and two touchdowns while adding 19 rushing yards. He led three scoring drives, showing poise and progress in his bid to climb the depth chart.

Even with that strong debut, Sanders remains a long shot to open the season as the starter. Head coach Kevin Stefanski said earlier Wednesday that fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel could get the nod against the Eagles this weekend, assuming he's recovered from a hamstring injury. Gabriel's status is still uncertain, as is that of Kenny Pickett, who's also battling a hamstring issue.

At 40 years old, veteran Joe Flacco has been the healthiest of Cleveland's quarterbacks in camp. The team also recently signed Tyler Huntley to help bolster depth amid the wave of injuries.

Meanwhile, Deshaun Watson remains injured and Browns fans everywhere are hoping the team is able to move on from him.

The Browns didn't provide a timetable for Sanders' return, but he's also dealt with arm soreness earlier in camp. With three quarterbacks already nursing injuries, the Browns will be watching this latest setback closely.
