Commanders Star Terry McLaurin Requests Trade From Team Amid Contract Negotiations

Washington Commanders star wide receiver Terry McLaurin has requested a trade on Thursday after contract negotiations have become stagnant, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.

In view of a potential deal, both sides seem to be far apart. That is, McLaurin already held out for the first four days of training camp before reporting Sunday. And now with no new negotiations, it seems McLaurin is vying for a trade in order to force a better offer for a contract extension.

Currently, McLaurin is on a three-year/$68 million extension that he signed back in 2022.

To point out, on July 15, the seven-year wideout said he would not step back onto the field until there were signs of "progression" toward a potential deal.

Commanders GM Adam Peters spoke on this at training camp, "You'd like to get these things done quicker, but it doesn't always happen that way. Whatever happens along the way, just understand he's a great player and we want to keep him here."

Although there has been discussions, there has been no momentum leading to an agreement.

Last week, Peters spoke on McLaurin's status.

"You're dealing with a really good player and really good person," Peters said. "And you never lose sight of that and make sure every conversation you have is very straightforward and in good faith and keeping that mindset throughout ... understanding our goal is to get a deal done."

In view of last season, McLaurin caught a career-high 13 receiving touchdowns from rookie star QB Jayden Daniels, as the duo led the team to the NFC Championship game.

Throughout his career, McLaurin has caught 460 passes, racking up 6,379 yards and 38 touchdowns.

The only deterrent for the Commanders offering an extension may be the fact that the 2x Pro Bowler will be turning 30 at the start of this season.

All in all, a deal is expected to get done as Cincinnati Bengals WR Higgins and San Francisco 49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk both requested trades before coming to terms on a deal with their teams.

Certainly, if McLaurin does go on the trade block, there will be many suitors ready to make a deal.
