It will not land in the NFL record book, but Cam Little now has a bragging-rights moment that few kickers in football history can match.

The Jacksonville Jaguars rookie drilled a 70-yard field goal just before halftime in Saturday's 31-25 preseason loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. In the 156 years since the first American football game was played, no kicker is known to have made a longer field goal in a game at any level.
You have probably seen the highlight by now. If not, it is worth another look. The kick had plenty of distance and would have tied an NFL record if it had come in the regular season. League rules keep preseason stats out of the books, so Justin Tucker's 66-yarder in 2021 remains the official mark.

At any level, Little's kick tops the charts. The previous best was 69 yards, set by Abilene Christian's Ove Johansson in 1976. High schooler Dirk Borgognone hit from 68 yards for Reno High in Nevada in 1985. Four college kickers have connected from 67 yards — Tom Odle (Fort Hays State, 1988), Joe Williams (Wichita State, 1978), Steve Little (Arkansas, 1977) and Russell Erxleben (Texas, 1977). Four high school players have also hit from that distance, most recently Austin Rehkow of Central Valley in Washington in 2012.
44 years ago today on October 16, 1976 it was homecoming weekend at Abilene Christian University and Ove Johansson made history.
With a 17 MPH wind, Johansson kicked the longest field goal ever 69-yards against East Texas State!

For now, Little's name will not appear alongside Tucker's in the NFL's official records. But in terms of sheer distance, the rookie has kicked his way into football history — and given everyone one more highlight worth hitting replay on.
"Kicking blocks are still legal in high school, but players don't have to use them," wrote CBS Sports' John Breech. "Former NFL kicker John Carney recently made a video about why high school kickers SHOULD use the block.
The fact that every field goal ever from 67 yards or longer has come off a kicking block makes Little's 70-yarder EVEN MORE impressive. And not only did he make the kick, but he drilled it: Little's field goal had so much juice on it that it probably would have been good from 73 to 75 yards. "
High school kickers, don’t be afraid of success. Using a kicking block will help you help your team win games this season. pic.twitter.com/OJ6vi5DSKH
