Saints' Alvin Kamara Gets Do-Over On First Pitch At Cubs Game, And Nails It

New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara didn't exactly fire a strike on his first ceremonial first pitch at Wrigley Field. But unlike most guests, he got a second try, and hey, he made that one count.

Kamara was on hand over the weekend to toss the first pitch before the Chicago Cubs hosted the St. Louis Cardinals. His initial throw landed in the dirt and bounced away from Clark the Cub, the team's mascot and unofficial catcher for the day.

Not satisfied, Kamara stayed on the mound and gestured for the ball back. A quick shrug to the crowd, a few scattered boos, and just like that, Kamara got a mulligan.

This time, the pitch didn't bounce. It wasn't exactly high heat, but it was closer to the strike zone — and definitely more on target than the first attempt.

It's an uncommon move, but a smart one. As baseball broadcasters often say, that's a pitch he'd like to have back. Kamara didn't hesitate to ask for it.

The six-time Pro Bowler has made a career out of second efforts, so it makes sense he'd stick with the play until he got it right.

Kamara was drafted by the Saints in the third round in 2017 after playing college football at Tennessee. He won NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year that season and has been one of the league's most dynamic backs ever since. In 2024, he became the Saints' all-time rushing leader.

His resume includes six rushing touchdowns in a single game, something only one other player in NFL history has accomplished. So maybe one bad pitch doesn't mean much, especially when you get a second chance to deliver.
