Tempers flared at Tennessee Titans practice Monday, with rookie quarterback Cam Ward finding himself in the middle of a scuffle with one of the team's biggest stars.

Ward, the No. 1 overall pick, fired a touchdown pass to Calvin Ridley in a red-zone drill that had the offense celebrating. Riding that momentum, Ward gave defensive lineman Jeffery Simmons a playful shove from behind. Simmons, a Pro Bowler and team captain, didn't let it slide. He shoved Ward back after some added taunting, and both sides quickly converged in a scrum.

For Titans fans, there is little reason to worry. Simmons has built a reputation as a leader since 2021 and has developed a bond with Ward, almost like a big brother guiding the rookie. The incident looked more like competitive fire than real hostility. Still, it showed the intensity that practice can reach as Tennessee works through camp.
Ward has given the Titans reason to be excited. The rookie quarterback has already delivered flashes of the talent that made him the NFL's first overall pick. On Friday, in Tennessee's preseason win over the Atlanta Falcons, Ward drew attention with a strike that zipped between three defenders — only to see receiver Van Jefferson drop it.
Ward finished 2-of-7 for 42 yards in the 23-20 victory, numbers that didn't reflect his poise or arm talent. His teammates didn't do him many favors, but the buzz around him has been strong nonetheless.
For now, the Titans appear to have a rookie quarterback who is confident enough to fire passes into tight windows — and shove a Pro Bowl teammate when he feels like it. Training camp scuffles usually fade quickly, but Ward has already shown he won't shy away from the spotlight.
